Community Member Reporting On Victim Silencing Behavior

A woman is being silenced by Shambhala for reporting wrongdoing: "Over the past year, I reported that teachers in the Bay Area of California have engaged in misconduct directed at women. Rather than focus on the veracity of the complaints I made, in recent times Shambhala zeroed in on my upset response in the classic style of blaming the victim. I was forwarded a letter sent by Alex Halpern, Shambhala's legal counsel, to Mary Whetsall, Dan Peterson, Alan Schwartz, Joanne Martin Braun, Amy Conway, and Charlene Leung a gourp which pretended to be interested in the Health & Wellbeing of Women. In reality, this letter which shows Shambhala International has no interest in caring for women, only CYA. Women are being harmed across the mandala and this will not change unless Shambhala takes complaints by women seriously instead of hiding out and covering up. Shame on you Shambhala.

"Dear friends,
I guess it’s pretty apparent that Janelle is in an intensified condition for the time being. Unfortunately, these are usually followed by deep depression. [He has never met her or communicated with her in a substantive way]

I think it is very unlikely that she will actually commence a lawsuit. If she does, we will refer it to our insurance carrier, who will assign the case to insurance defense counsel in the San Francisco area. I don’t really think there is much more we can do right now – certainly not much more I can do. I will not talk to her, but I will talk to her attorney, if there is one. There is no need to provide information about who she can serve with process (which is how you start a lawsuit). That’s up to her and her attorney to figure out.
Let me know if there are significant developments and feel free to let me know if you have questions or concerns.
Yours,
Alex.
